Gill Heart and Vascular Institute Celebrate Top Spot as Preferred Provider
According to the Kentucky Hospital Association's first quarter 2017 inpatient data, UK HealthCare's Gill Heart and Vascular Institute has claimed the top spot as Lexington's preferred provider of cardiovascular care.
The Gill's market share has increased every fiscal year since 2010, and with a share of 35.9 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 surpassed that of all other Lexington hospitals.
"Our physicians and staff have worked tirelessly to provide top-notch cardiovascular care to patients in Kentucky and beyond," said Dr. Susan Smyth, director of the Gill Heart and Vascular Institute. "This milestone is a reflection of that work and I couldn't be more proud of this team."
Staff and faculty celebrated the achievement at a breakfast on March 7. Justin Campbell, associate hospital administrator, and Lacey Buckler, assistant chief nurseeExecutive, handed out heart-shaped donuts and gifts to their staff to commemorate the achievement.
The Gill Heart and Vascular Institute was founded in 1997 by a gift from Jack and Linda Gill with a mandate to provide Kentuckians with a first-class clinical care and access to the latest technological advances to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease. The Gill currently offers a wide range of cardiovascular care and tertiary services, including heart failure, adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.
Gill is also a leader in heart transplantation services and ranked top 10 in the U.S. in the number of heart transplants performed in the 2015-16 fiscal year.
