Academic Convocation and Awards Day

Faculty, residents, students, and staff filled the UK Chandler Hospital Pavilion H Auditorium on Friday, September 7, to celebrate academic excellence, service, and leadership at the annual Academic Convocation and Awards Ceremony.

Awards Day was established in 1964 to highlight the previous year’s academic accomplishments and was extended in 1994 to include the Academic Convocation to provide a venue for a series of lectures that address current topics in medical education.

Chipper Griffith, MD, MSPH, vice dean for education in the College of Medicine delivered the Munich Memorial Lecture titled “Teaching Thy Self.” The Munich Memorial Lectureship was established by the family of Mr. Edwin Munich, a vital force for progress in the community.

Goals of the program include recognizing student excellence in scholastic achievement and commitment to service, recognizing individuals who exemplify dedication to teaching, and providing inspiration to the student and faculty through lectures from leaders in medical education.
